Maple Poached pears
By: Donna Culpepper
INGREDIENTS
- 4 pears – Bosc or other harder variety work best
- 1 cup maple syrup
- ½ cup butter
- 1 -2 cups water
- Cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
- Core and halve pears
DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, heat the maple syrup, add butter to melt, add 1 cup water and seasonings. Place pears cut side down in liquid. Put lid on pan and poach for 30 minutes, adding water as needed to keep sauce from being too thick. Remove pears to serving vessel and add the sauce over the top. If the sauce feels too thin, just cook it down a bit – 5 minutes or so – until syrupy.
